I just want to say "what the heck?! 1:5000 chance means there is still a possibility of killing someone or some animal!"

the following from National Nine News:

'Two spacewalkers from the International Space Station have pitched two large pieces of obsolete equipment into orbit.

A 630kg refrigerator-sized reservoir that contains ammonia was cast overboard during a spacewalk by station flight engineer Clay Anderson and his commander, Russian cosmonaut Fyodor Yurchikhin. Anderson also tossed away a 96kg camera mounting.

NASA normally frowns on littering in space, but found itself with no better option than to discard the ammonia tank, which was no longer needed for cooling, and the obsolete video equipment.

With just 14 missions to the space station remaining before the space shuttles are retired in 2010, engineers could not make room in a shuttle cargo bay to transport the gear back to Earth.

So Anderson, who was making his first spacewalk, positioned himself at the end of the station's outstretched robotic arm, leaned back and heaved the junk overboard.

"Nice work," said astronaut Chris Cassidy from NASA's Mission Control Centre in Houston.

Television cameras anchored outside the station showed the huge white tank tumbling away from the station as it flew over the Atlantic Ocean.

NASA is concerned the free-flying debris might strike the station and as a precaution, planned to raise its orbit by 7.2km later in the day to give the space junk wide berth.

Both items will be tracked by radar until they tumble from space and burn up in Earth's atmosphere. The video mounting is expected to completely disintegrate, but pieces of the ammonia tank as large as 17.5kg could survive and strike Earth.

NASA expects any debris to land in the ocean but calculated a 1:5,000 chance that it could injure or kill a person. The ammonia tank is expected to remain in orbit for at least 300 days and the agency will issue warnings if it becomes a threat during re-entry.

In addition to discarding the old gear, the spacewalkers cleaned debris off a docking port so the complex will be ready for new laboratories built by Europe and Japan, and replaced a faulty electronics switch in the mobile transporter that moves the station's robot arm to various work locations along the station's exterior support beams.

The $US100 billion ($A114 billion) outpost, a project of 16 nations, is a little more than half-finished. Additional work on the station is planned next month during a seven- to 10-day servicing call by the space shuttle Endeavour crew, which includes teacher-astronaut Barbara Morgan.'

had lunch at Notturno with Bryan, Chris, Firdaus, Hans and Ryan. no time for pics as they already finished eating when I arrived..hehe..

evening: went to Firdaus' place to watch All Blacks vs Wallabies (yeah! All Blacks won! don't you just love it when they do the Haka?) and Japan vs Australia (yeah! Japan won!)...yeap, I watched them in Melbourne :X was too hungry to wait for Hans and Bryan to bring the KFC over so I cooked Indomie and they had to arrive the moment I sat down to eat.

more grocery shopping at Safeway. this is what you see when Red Rock Deli chips are on sale.

my favourite bookstore: Andrew's Bookshop will be shifting out of Lygon Court from 25th because the management terminated their contract. I feel so sad. its like this sense of loss inside of me. I like to pop by every time I walk pass Lygon Court. I bought so many books from them during my trips here last year and this(will update on the books I bought this year soon). their books are much cheaper than Borders which is just opposite or Reading's which is just across the road. and I bought alot of books that Ive been wanting to get which are published last year or earlier for 10bucks or less. they'll have 2 branches at Ivanhoe after they shift out. I don't even know where that is. lucky thing is, they have an online store. hehehehehhehe!!!! =D

Hope that labrador is really alright because the bike was badly damaged. they should send it to a vet or something. animals don't show when they are in pain.

'From correspondents in Briancon, France

July 18, 2007

T-MOBILE'S 2007 Tour de France jinx continued when Marcus Burghardt crashed after hitting a dog during the ninth stage.

The German rider could not avoid the Labrador retriever as it crossed the road 50km into the stage from Val d'Isere.

Neither he nor the dog appeared to be injured, but the bike was badly damaged.

T-Mobile has lost three riders in this year's Tour.

Australian team leader Michael Rogers crashed heavily during stage eight, on the descent from the Cormet de Roselend, and pulled out with a shoulder injury.

Mark Cavendish from Great Britain gave up his first Tour during the same stage, while Patrik Sinkewitz from Germany withdrew from the race after hitting a spectator as he rode to his hotel in Val d'Isere at the end of the day.

Sinkewitz broke his nose in the collision. The spectator was taken to hospital in Grenoble in a serious condition but regained consciousness late on Monday.

9:57 PM
watched Fantastic Four before going to bed last night.

couldn't wake up this morning. couldn't even wake up in time for lunch at my favourite Korean Restaurant. my lunch was takeaway from Rose Garden. was so busy with my NDS games that I was so late for Fantastic Four - Rise of The Silver. watched Transformers instead. I don't know why the ticket's only 8bucks. supposed to be 15bucks. bought a booklet of 5 tickets for 50bucks but didnt use that in the end cos the Transformers ticket was only 8bucks...hahaha!!

takeaway Hungry Jack's to Firdaus' place to see the Koreans vs the Indos. a war took place at his hse...haha...and the hot tea I requested for turned out to be just hot water. the manager at Hungry Jack's forgot about my teabag. oh my...

Im drinking Harvey Fresh chocolate milk now. as recommended by Sarah. its really nice!!

Nintendo DS lite and Microsoft Windows Vista rocks!!!!
movies
12:10 AM
watched Harry Potter at Hoyts Carousel last week. I slept throughout the movie. its not that the show is boring. well, I wouldn't know because I fell asleep the moment the show began. maybe because there were too many commercials before that. or have I grown used to sleeping in cinemas? I did that the previous week while watching Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End. I thought it was because the beanbag was too comfortable.

was invited to a Brunetti event this evening at Cinema Nova. watched this show called Evening. I like it very much. meaningful. bring some tissue paper along if your gonna catch it.

will be watching Fantastic 4 - Rise of The Silver Surfer tomorrow, collect my jeans from Guess, have dinner and watch Korea vs Indonesia at Firdaus' place. no time to update on what I did in Perth yet. but I promise I'll post soon.

stayed in most of the days after Jianfu, Sarah, Glen, Xiao Yi and Freddy left Melbourne because the weather has been so cold. I just feel so lazy and kept sleeping. finished watching the whole series of Heroes. its nice! also watched F1, Wimbledon, Tri Nations, Tour de France.

another reason I stayed in: sore throat =(

I only went out on friday to send my jeans for repair and dinner at Lemon Bistro. expensive and not as good as Your Thai.

and today, to help Sarah buy more Krispy Kreme. haha...I so wanna eat them just now. had an early dinner and finished all the instant noodles we had. dinner was in Chinatown. their chili seafood fried rice is really nice but don't try the one that says choose rice or noodles + 3 ingredients + choice of sauce. I chose rice and satay sauce thinking it'll be fried and quite unique but it turned out to be just white rice, satay sauce by the side and ingredients in this soup. this is my 3rd consecutive dissatisfying meal here. wanted to go to Pancake Parlour for dessert but bought a DS lite on my way so I decided not to spend more money eating dessert.
